Vol de nuit
An unlikely journey, interspersed with the humour of the absurd, passing clouds, a superb view and moments of panic. But the hammer, what about the hammer?
A man wearing a hat stands in front of his window and dreams of flying. His search involves him in a series of events, during which everyday objects come alive. He cannot avoid them. He, himself, becomes the object of their manipulations until, finally, he loses control of his own identity. A surrealistic, unpredictable and absurd story.
"Vol de nuit" convinces above all thanks to the powerful poetry of its choreography, to the surprising changes in rhythm and to its astonishing magical illusions. From the very beginning, the spectators are won over by this live tableau in René Magritte style and share the journey through this world of everyday objects that come alive and disappear, independently of all reasonable logic, representing the character's thoughts in concrete form.
This short play creates mysterious poetic images which open up a whole field of unlimited associations. The play sends the spectator back to his own imagination.
Markus Gfeller's musical composition, running through the whole play, plays a central role in the creation of ambience. The musical dialogue combines with visual aspects in many different ways, from harmony to contrast, sometimes dominant and sometimes questioning.
"Philipp Boë is a magician. All his gangly mime comes out of a chest à la Magritte or disappears back into it in such a fantastic way that it has to be seen to be believed."
Franz Hohler, Song composer and author.
